Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026 · Effective: August 2026
🔒 The short version: Your classroom data lives on your device, not our servers. Student names are never sent to the AI. PedagogAI is built with a genuine understanding of FOIPPA and BC's privacy framework for educators — and we're transparent about where the limits of any AI tool exist.
1. Who We Are
PedagogAI is operated by Brigette Mackay, a BC-based educator and software developer. We can be reached at hello@pedagogai.ca.
2. What Data We Collect
Data that stays on YOUR device only
The following data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device and is never sent to PedagogAI servers:
- Student names, grades, and class information
- Ministry designation codes and ELL levels
- IEP notes and adapted curriculum information
- Assessment observations and proficiency records
- Teacher notes and contact logs
- Seating plans and timetables
- All other classroom data you enter
Important: Because your data lives only in your browser, clearing your browser cache or switching devices will remove your data. We strongly recommend using the backup feature regularly (Settings → Download Backup).
Data we DO collect
| Data | Purpose | Stored where |
| License key | Verify your subscription | Lemon Squeezy (payment processor) |
| Call counts per license key | Usage limits / cost management | Our Supabase database (Canada) |
| Purchase email address | Receipt and renewal reminders | Lemon Squeezy |
| Payment information | Processing your subscription | Lemon Squeezy (we never see card details) |
3. How AI Features Work
When you use AI features (report card comments, rubrics, unit plans, etc.), here is exactly what happens:
- What IS sent to the AI: Grade level, subject, proficiency levels (Emerging/Developing/Proficient/Extending), structured designation codes (e.g. "has an IEP"), ELL level, support strategies you've selected, observation content you've written, and general class context from Settings
- What is NEVER sent to the AI: Student names, dates of birth, parent contact information, free-text IEP notes, SEL notes, or any narrative personal information
- When a student's name appears in a generated comment, it is inserted on your device after the AI responds — the AI itself only ever sees "the student"
- AI calls are processed through our secure Netlify proxy function — requests never go directly from your browser to Anthropic
- Anthropic (our AI provider) processes prompts on servers located in the United States, subject to their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy
How we protect student privacy: Student names are replaced with anonymized references before any data reaches the AI. Structured fields (designation type, ELL level, support strategies) are used instead of narrative personal notes. The AI never sees who your students are — only the professional context needed to generate useful output.
4. FOIPPA — Our Approach and Honest Limitations
PedagogAI is built with a genuine working understanding of BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) and the BC Ministry of Education's AI framework for K–12 schools. We have made deliberate design decisions to minimize the personal information that reaches any AI system:
- Student names never leave your device
- Free-text personal notes (IEP narratives, SEL notes) are not sent to the AI
- Only structured, categorical data is used in AI prompts
- Your classroom roster is never stored on our servers
- We do not build profiles of your students
An honest note about AI tools and privacy law: No AI tool that processes prompts through a third-party language model can make an absolute claim of full FOIPPA compliance — because compliance ultimately depends on what data a teacher chooses to include in any prompt, and because AI processing involves US-based infrastructure. PedagogAI is designed to make it significantly harder to accidentally share identifying student information with an AI — but teachers remain responsible for what they enter into any digital tool.
We recommend that teachers consult with their school district's privacy officer regarding the use of any digital tools, and review the BC Ministry of Education AI guidance for their district context.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- Student data: Stored only in your browser — deleted when you clear your browser data or use the "Clear All Data" feature in Settings
- License usage data: Retained for the duration of your subscription and up to 12 months after expiry for billing purposes
- Purchase data: Retained by Lemon Squeezy according to their data retention policies
To request deletion of any data we hold, email hello@pedagogai.ca. We will respond within 30 days.
6. Third-Party Services
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
| Anthropic (Claude API) | AI content generation | anthropic.com/privacy |
| Lemon Squeezy | Payment processing & license keys | lemonsqueezy.com/privacy |
| Netlify | Website hosting & serverless functions | netlify.com/privacy |
| Supabase | Usage tracking database | supabase.com/privacy |
7. Cookies
PedagogAI uses browser localStorage (not cookies) to store your classroom data and preferences on your device. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We do not use analytics services that track your behaviour.
8. Children's Privacy
PedagogAI is designed for use by teachers (adults). The Service is not directed at children. While teachers use the Service to manage information about their students, student data is never collected by PedagogAI — it remains on the teacher's device only.
9. Your Rights
Under BC's PIPA and FIPPA, you have the right to:
- Access information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent for data processing
To exercise these rights, contact hello@pedagogai.ca.
